Professor Najma Siddiqi is a renowned psychiatrist at the University of York, holding a joint appointment with the Hull York Medical School and the Department of Health Sciences. She is a member of the Centre for Health and Population Sciences and leads globally significant research programs on physical and mental illness comorbidity, including diabetes in severe mental illness and delirium in care homes. She also drives initiatives for culturally appropriate mental health services for Black and Minority Ethnic populations.

Her work spans diabetes and mental illness (DIAMONDS program), delirium in care homes (PITSTOP, DCM-EPIC trials), and cultural adaptation of mental health interventions (ROSHNI-D). She has secured major funding from NIHR and developed tools like the 4AT delirium screening scale. All her projects emphasize global health equity and cost-effective interventions.
Professor Siddiqi’s research group collaborates with institutions in South Asia and East Africa, focusing on integrated care and decentralized mental health services. She has contributed extensively to BMJ Open, Lancet, and PLOS ONE, with recent articles on behavioral activation in diabetes-depression and economic models for TB-diabetes.
