Prof. Nadja El Kassar is a Professor of Philosophy with a focus on Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Lucerne since April 2023. She serves as Head of the Department of Philosophy and Head of the Board of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (GSL). Her research emphasizes philosophies of ignorance, epistemic injustice, and the epistemology of online spaces.
Education: Studied English and Philosophy (Lehramt) at Dortmund and Leeds (2003-2007). Earned a PhD (summa cum laude) from the University of Potsdam in 2013 with thesis A Theory of Epistemically Significant Perception, supported by a German National Academic Foundation Fellowship. Completed habilitation at ETH Zurich in 2020 with thesis What Is Ignorance and How Should We Rationally Deal with It? (Routledge book under contract).
Previous roles include postdoctoral fellowships at ETH Zurich (2013-2019), University of Zurich (2019-2020), and visiting professorship at Freie Universität Berlin (2020-2023).
