Dr. Na Wu is a Professor in the Department of Language & Linguistics at Trinity Western University (TWU), part of the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. She specializes in Sino-Western literary and cultural studies, Mandarin language instruction, and gender studies in Chinese texts. Since 2005, she has developed two Chinese Minors and teaches courses from introductory to advanced levels in Chinese language and culture. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes holistic learning, integrating spiritual and relational growth with academic rigor.
Her research focuses on Chinese-English cultural intersections, gender dynamics in literature, and TCSL methodologies. Notable works include analyzing gender relationships in TCSL curricula and exploring methodological challenges in global nursing historiography (co-authored). Dr. Wu’s contributions have been recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education as an Excellent Instructor and through an outstanding thesis award for her work on cultural gaps between China and the West.
Dr. Wu actively engages students in BC’s 'Chinese Bridge' Mandarin competitions, fostering academic and cultural exchange. Beyond academia, her interests include reading, gardening, and hiking. She holds a PhD in Comparative Cultural Studies from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (2003), alongside earlier degrees in English Literature and Language.
Her professional affiliations include the Canadian TCSL Association, Women’s History Network, and SCOLA (BC Language Articulation Committee). Courses taught span foundational Chinese language courses to advanced studies on Confucian texts and modern Chinese literature.
