Shu Zhu is a Lecturer in the Asian Studies Program at the Faculty of Arts, University of Manitoba. She has been teaching courses such as Introduction to Chinese (Mandarin) and Advanced Chinese (Mandarin) since 2009.

Her research focuses on instructional theories in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, cognitive and communicative language learning approaches, and the application of multimedia-mediated instruction and pedagogical technologies. She is affiliated with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the Canadian TCSL Association.
Shu Zhu has contributed to publications on Chinese language pedagogy and modern literature, including book chapters on vocabulary acquisition and literary criticism. She also serves as an expert on Asian culture for the Royal Canadian Mint, vetting coin designs since 2017.
