Myra Mendible

Dr. Myra Mendible is a Professor and co-founder of the English program at Florida Gulf Coast University's College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Miami, with additional degrees from the same institution and Florida International University. Her research focuses on the intersections of cultural theory, comparative literature, and American studies, with an emphasis on how politics, identity, and cultural production shape social and national identities. She has authored monographs like American War Stories: Veteran-Writers and the Politics of Memoir (2021) and edited interdisciplinary collections such as From Bananas to Buttocks: The Latina Body in Popular Film and Culture (2007).

Her work spans academic contributions to journals like Cultural Critique and War, Literature, and the Arts, alongside conference presentations at venues including the American Association of Comparative Literature and Oxford Roundtable. Awards include the National Hispanic Scholar designation and grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Dr. Mendible teaches courses on cultural critique, Latinx studies, and interdisciplinary body studies, reflecting her commitment to linking academic inquiry with societal issues.
