Myles B. Poulin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland College Park. His research focuses on bioorganic chemistry, enzymology, and bacterial biofilm biosynthesis. He holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Northern British Columbia (2007) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Alberta (2012), followed by postdoctoral research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (2012–2016).
Research interests include the development of tools to study exopolysaccharide biosynthesis and their role in biofilm formation. His lab employs synthetic carbohydrate chemistry, enzymology, and molecular biology to investigate exopolysaccharide structure, transport, and enzymatic breakdown. Current projects involve designing chemical probes to disrupt biofilm assembly and studying enzymes that degrade biofilm matrices.
Notable awards include the NSF CAREER Award (2020) and the Dennis Shields Postdoctoral Research Prize (2016). The lab actively seeks graduate students in Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Lab activities include interdisciplinary approaches combining chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Recent publications highlight advancements in biofilm dispersal enzyme assays and enzymatic kinetics analysis using kinetic isotope effects.
