Murray Hunt serves as Visiting Professor in Human Rights Law at the University of Oxford Faculty of Law and Director of the Policy and Evidence Centre on Modern Slavery and Human Rights. He advises the UK Attorney General's Office on rule of law matters and represents the UK on the Council of Europe's Venice Commission.
Previously, he directed the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law (2017-2024), establishing initiatives to enhance democratic legitimacy of legal principles. As Legal Adviser to the UK Parliament's Joint Committee on Human Rights (2004-2017), he assessed legislative compliance with human rights standards and international judgments.
His research focuses on strengthening the rule of law through parliamentary engagement, evidenced by an AHRC-funded project 'Parliaments, the Rule of Law and Human Rights'. This work informed UN principles on parliamentary human rights roles and addressed democratic deficit concerns in rights protection systems.
