Murali K. Mantrala is the Ned N. Fleming Professor at the University of Kansas School of Business. He holds emeritus status as a professor of marketing at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and serves as distinguished visiting faculty at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai, and senior research fellow at the Indian School of Business. Previously, he held roles including J. C. Penney Associate Professor at the University of Florida, manager at ZS Associates, and regional sales manager at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals.
Education: Ph.D. in Marketing (Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, 1987), MBA (University of Minnesota, 1981), PGDM (Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, 1976), and B.S. in Physics (University of Delhi, 1974).
Research focuses on retail pricing, category management, advertising strategies, sales force compensation, and two-sided platform marketing. His work has earned multiple accolades, including notable awards from Marketing Science and Journal of Interactive Marketing. He has contributed to editorial leadership, serving as co-editor-in-chief of Journal of Retailing (2015-17) and participating in high-profile academic initiatives like the AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium.
Professional service includes editorial board memberships across top marketing journals and organizing events such as the Inaugural Marketing Strategy Consortium at MU (2018).
