Murad Nasibov is a Research Associate at the Institute of Political Science, Justus Liebig University Giessen, working at the Chair of International Integration with a special focus on Eastern Europe. He has been actively involved in research and teaching since joining the university as a doctoral candidate in 2018. His work focuses on international organizations within the Eurasian context, particularly examining the dynamics between regional organizations and state strategies in post-Soviet space.
Nasibov's research interests center on Eurasian regionalism, civil society under authoritarian regimes, and small state strategies within international organizations. His work challenges hegemony-centric approaches to post-Soviet regionalism by highlighting the agency of secondary states within regional organizations. He has developed novel theoretical frameworks including the "arena approach" to understanding regional organization dynamics and has created datasets analyzing high-level document-signing patterns within the Commonwealth of Independent States from 1996 to 2022.
His recent publications show a clear trend toward analyzing the impact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on regional organizations, the evolving dynamics of Eurasian integration, and theoretical innovations in understanding civil society-authoritarian regime interactions. His work spans both theoretical contributions to international relations theory and empirical analyses of specific regional contexts, particularly focusing on the Central Asia and South Caucasus (CASC) region.
