Hon. Morris J. Fish is a Jurist in Residence at McGill University's Faculty of Law, where he serves as an Adjunct Professor teaching criminal evidence, procedure, and advanced criminal law. He previously served on the Quebec Court of Appeal (1989–2003) and the Supreme Court of Canada (2003–2013). A graduate of McGill University (BCL, First Class Honours; BA with distinction) and the University of Paris (constitutional law and civil liberties), he has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Companion of the Order of Canada (2017).
Justice Fish has held leadership roles in legal organizations, advised Canadian federal agencies, and contributed to landmark cases such as the Dutee Chand hyperandrogenism ruling. His academic and professional work emphasizes constitutional law, criminal justice reform, and human rights advocacy. In 2021, he submitted a pivotal report on Canada’s military justice system, proposing 107 recommendations to enhance independence and accountability.
