Moritz Schularick is the President of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy since June 2023 and holds the title of Professor of Economics at Sciences Po (Paris). He concurrently holds an affiliation with Kiel University. Previously, he was Professor of Macroeconomics at the University of Bonn and Director of the MacroFinance Lab there. He is a Fellow of the DFG-Excellence Cluster ECONtribute, a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, and Academia Europea. His roles have included research at institutions like New York University, the University of Cambridge, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Research Interests
His work focuses on macrofinance, banking and financial stability, international economics, political economy, and economic history. Key themes include financial crises, monetary policy impacts on asset prices, debt-inequality links, and globalization dynamics. His influential paper on credit cycles shaped macroprudential policies globally.

Recipient of Germany's prestigious 2022 Leibniz Prize and the 2018 Gossen Prize for outstanding contributions to economics. Editor of Economic Policy, Europe's leading journal on economic policy.
