Morgan Barrie is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout's Department of Visual & Performing Arts within the College of Arts & Human Sciences. Her research focuses on human-environmental relationships, particularly anthropocene challenges like invasive species and ecological interdependence, using photography and mixed-media installations. She holds an MFA from Eastern Michigan University (2013) and a B.A. from Columbia College Chicago (2008). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo shows at WHAT Gallery (2024) and Mirrorlab Gallery (2023). Awards include the Lauren Shrensel Zadikow Memorial Award (2025) and recognition in The National: Best Contemporary Photography (2014).
Teaching spans multiple institutions: UW-Stout (2019–present), Eastern Michigan University (2015–2019 as Part-time Lecturer), and Washtenaw Community College (2013–2019 as Part-time Instructor). Courses include Photography Studio, Digital Media, and Critical Theory. Her current projects include Pelt (2024–present) exploring postnatural futures and Grief & Intelligence (2024) addressing ecological grief through material culture.
Artistic practice integrates tedious processes like anthotype printing and digital collage, emphasizing ecological awareness. Barrie is a member of the Eco.Echo Art Collective, advocating planetary well-being beyond human-centric perspectives. Recent exhibitions highlight themes of invasive species, material decay, and human-nature entanglement, showcased in venues like the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and St. Lawrence University.
