Mora Deitch

Mora Deitch is a Research Fellow at the GIGA Institute for African Affairs (German Institute for Global and Area Studies) since September 2021 and an ISEF Foundation International Fellow. Previously, they held roles including Neubauer Research Associate at Tel-Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies (since 2019), Lecturer at Bar-Ilan University (2019), and various research assistant positions across institutions like Bar-Ilan University and the GIGA. They are a Ph.D. candidate in Political Studies at Bar-Ilan University (since 2017).

Education:

• Ph.D. candidate in Political Studies, Bar-Ilan University, Israel (since 02/2017)

Research Interests: Focus on peace and security, with expertise in conflict dynamics, ideology’s role in armed conflicts, religion and conflict resolution, and the socio-political impacts of global crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Their work bridges political science, security studies, and transitional justice mechanisms.

Key Projects: Co-led the Volkswagen Foundation-funded project 'Corona Conflicts? Analysing Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Violent Conflict in Africa' (2021–2022). Investigated how the pandemic influenced violence in sub-Saharan Africa through economic and governance lenses.

Labs/Teams: Active within the GIGA’s Peace and Security research programme and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams at Bar-Ilan University and Tel-Aviv University.
