Monique C Chabot is an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Widener University, where she joined in 2021. Her academic career includes prior faculty roles at Thomas Jefferson University. She holds an OTD from Boston University, an MS from Thomas Jefferson University, and a BS from the University of North Texas. Dr. Chabot specializes in geriatrics, aging in place, home modifications, and smart technology, with a focus on interprofessional collaboration between occupational therapists and design professionals. Her research also explores dementia care, sensory strategies for mental health, and the impact of international service learning on healthcare students' development.
Her professional affiliations include AOTA and POTA, and she has received awards such as the Emerging and Innovative Practice Award (AOTA, 2020) and the Specialty Certification in Environmental Modifications (AOTA, 2019). Dr. Chabot has led international service-learning initiatives to Morocco, emphasizing cultural sensitivity and sustainable community services. She also collaborates with design disciplines to enhance accessibility in built environments. Notable contributions include her telescoping electronic reacher invention, which won the Audience Choice award at AOTA’s Inventors Showcase in 2022.
Her teaching spans assessment, intervention strategies for older adults, assistive technology design, and interprofessional education. She advocates for health literacy through interdisciplinary projects and has developed programs like GOALS2 to support students with disabilities.
