Monika Schnitzer is a Full Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Munich since 1996. Her research focuses on multinational firms, innovation, international trade, and corporate governance. She has held visiting professorships at Harvard University, Berkeley, Yale, and Stanford. Schnitzer is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina) and has received prestigious awards such as the Gustav Stolper Prize (2022) and an honorary doctorate from Kiel University (2019). Her work explores topics like tax havens, trade liberalization, financial constraints, and FDI dynamics. Recent publications address multinational firms' strategies, trade credit mechanisms, and innovation barriers in developing economies.
Her research interests span corporate finance, industrial organization, and international economics, with a focus on how firms navigate global markets and financial systems. Schnitzer has contributed to understanding how political risks and creditor rights influence corporate decisions. She is affiliated with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and CESifo Research Networks.
