Monica Pauls, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Child Studies and Social Work at Mount Royal University. Her academic career spans over 15 years, emphasizing the integration of theory and practice through participatory learning and community partnerships. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Calgary, along with advanced degrees from the University of Calgary and University of Manitoba.
Her education includes a BA from the University of Manitoba, MA and PhD in Sociology from the University of Calgary, and a Diploma in Criminology from Mount Royal College. Prior to academia, she worked in policy analysis at the United Way and as a Research Coordinator at CRILF, alongside youth-focused roles in schools and residential facilities.
Dr. Pauls' research focuses on youth activism, social media's role in youth engagement, community development, and program evaluation. She explores topics like online activism, trauma education, and domestic violence prevention. Her work bridges academic research with real-world applications through partnerships with community organizations.
Her presentations highlight themes like e-learning's role in connecting theory to practice and the impact of technology on youth activism. She actively contributes to professional boards such as the Child and Youth Care Educational and Accreditation Board of Canada and the Canadian Sociological Association.
