Dr. Harpreet Aulakh is an Associate Professor in Criminal Justice at Mount Royal University, where she serves as Honours Coordinator for the Criminal Justice program. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan, an MSc from Punjab Agricultural University, and teaches courses on diversity issues, Indigenous justice, and youth offenders.
Her research examines youth crime through multiple lenses including resilience theory, racial-ethnic disparities, and Indigenous experiences within correctional systems. She investigates how structural factors influence youth trajectories within justice systems.
Dr. Aulakh leads research projects funded by SSHRC and the Calgary John Howard Society, examining Indigenous youth experiences in corrections and community perceptions of crime prevention. Her publications include contributions to Youth Justice: A Canadian Overview and Diversity and Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
She serves on the Calgary John Howard Society board and BowMount Youth Justice Committee while chairing research ethics review processes.
