Dr. Voula Marinos is a Professor in the Department of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University and the inaugural Director of the Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice (FPAC) program. She holds a PhD in Criminology from the University of Toronto and completed a SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship at Queen’s University Law School. Her research focuses on three key areas: diversion from formal court processes, mental health/intellectual disabilities in legal contexts, and plea bargaining/sentencing practices.

Research interests include criminal justice policy reform, youth and adult sentencing, alternatives to imprisonment, and the intersection of intellectual disabilities with legal systems. She is a member of the Canadian Centre for Lifespan Research and contributed to the 3Rs Research Team, advocating for human rights of persons with intellectual disabilities.
Teaching includes courses on youth law (CHYS 3P39), young offenders and youth justice (CHYS 3Q91), and sentencing/punishment of young offenders (CHYS 4P39). Her work involves extensive interviews with criminal justice professionals and court observations.
Community involvement includes roles such as Chair of the Research Ethics Board (John Howard Society of Ontario), member of the Niagara Justice Collaborative, and volunteer with the George Hull Centre for Children and Families.
Her publications span topics like therapeutic jurisprudence adaptations for disability inclusion and comparative analyses of youth courts. She actively engages criminal justice stakeholders through lectures and policy discussions.
