Demetra Sorvatzioti is a Professor in the Law Department of the University of Nicosia's School of Law, where she heads both the Cyprus Center for Law and Justice (C.C.L.J) and the Institute of Criminal Studies and Criminology. She has been practicing law since 1990 in Greece and since 2005 in Cyprus, bringing extensive practical experience to her academic work.
Her primary research interests focus on criminal law, evidence, criminal procedure, criminology, and human rights, with particular expertise in comparative law, sentencing, sexual offenders, and the relationship between social exclusion and criminal justice. Dr. Sorvatzioti has developed a substantial body of scholarly work examining international criminal law procedures, evidence evaluation standards, and sentencing principles across different legal systems.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on International Criminal Court procedures, particularly examining evidence evaluation standards and sentencing decisions. She has made significant contributions to understanding how continental and common law evidence systems intersect in international criminal proceedings, and has published extensively on drug treatment courts and the assessment of offenders within therapeutic justice frameworks.
