Dr. Monia Mazigh is an Assistant Professor at Thompson Rivers University. She is internationally recognized for her relentless advocacy in exposing systemic injustices highlighted through her husband Maher Arar's unlawful detention and torture by U.S. and Syrian authorities in 2002-2003. Her activism led to Canada's public inquiry into his case and a formal government apology. She holds an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Nipissing University (2007).
Her work focuses on human rights, legal accountability, and the intersection of security policies with civil liberties. She emphasizes systemic reforms to prevent arbitrary detentions and safeguard democratic rights.
