Dr. Monalisa Adhikari is a Senior Lecturer in International Politics at the University of Stirling, with prior experience at the University of Keele. Her research focuses on emerging powers in global peace governance, foreign policies of India and China, peacebuilding norms in Asia, peace processes, and fragile states in a shifting world order. She has conducted fieldwork across India, China, Japan, Myanmar, and Nepal, and holds expertise in international development through roles with organizations like the Asia Foundation and the FIA Foundation.
Current projects include a book manuscript analyzing Indian and Chinese approaches to peacebuilding and co-editing a volume on Japan's peacebuilding engagement with Waseda University. As a Co-Investigator for the Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform (PeaceREP), she examines political transitions in post-coup Myanmar and coordinates its Study Group on Myanmar, fostering international collaboration. She also serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding.
Awarded the Civil Society Scholars Award (2018) by the Open Society Foundation, her work bridges academic research with practical policy insights. She secured a Daiwa Foundation Small Grant (2022) to explore Japan's role in Asian conflict-affected states. Her research emphasizes comparative learning for international support strategies in conflict zones.
