Professor Mona Siddiqui is a leading academic in Islamic and interreligious studies, holding the position of Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies and Assistant Principal for Religion and Society at the University of Edinburgh. She is also the Jane and Aatos Erkko Chair at the Helsinki Collegium and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Hartford International University. Her roles include VP International at the Royal Society of Edinburgh and chair of the BBC’s Scottish Religious Advisory Committee. She has held visiting professorships at institutions in the US and Europe, including Cambridge University and Union Theological Seminary.
Her education includes a BA from the University of Leeds, an MA from the University of Manchester, and a PhD in Classical Islamic Law from the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on Islamic jurisprudence, ethics, and Christian-Muslim relations. She has authored influential books such as Human Struggle (2021) and 50 Ideas in Islam (2016), and her work bridges academic scholarship with public engagement through media appearances on BBC Radio and international platforms.
Professor Siddiqui’s awards include an OBE (2011), election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2019), and honorary doctorates from multiple universities. She has advised governments, including the UK Home Office on sharia councils, and serves on boards such as the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation. Her media contributions and legal consultancy highlight her role in shaping public discourse on religion, ethics, and societal issues.
