Morgan Clarke is a Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Institute of Social & Cultural Anthropology and Keble College. His research spans the anthropology of Islam, sharia, ethics, law, and religious authority, with a focus on Lebanon and the UK.

His work explores Islamic bioethics, sharia in state and non-state contexts, and the dynamics of religious rules. Current research, funded by the John Fell Fund, examines sharia norms in everyday UK Shi'i communities with Dr. Ali-Reza Bhojani.
Recent publications analyze religious authority, ethical rule application, and interdisciplinary approaches to Islamic ethics. Awards include the Leverhulme Trust grant for rule-based anthropological studies.
