Molly J. Loberg is a Professor of History at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), affiliated with the Department of History within the College of Liberal Arts. Her research focuses on Modern Europe, Germany, War and Society, Urban History, and Consumer Culture. She holds a PhD from Princeton University, alongside MA and BA degrees from Princeton and Pacific Lutheran University, respectively.
Dr. Loberg’s work examines the intersection of urban space, political conflict, and consumer culture in 20th-century Germany. Notably, her book The Struggle for the Streets of Berlin (2018) won the Hans Rosenberg Book Prize and analyzes how Berlin’s streets became battlegrounds for political and economic control from 1914–1945. Her articles explore topics like crowd violence, tumult laws, and the socio-political costs of public unrest in Weimar and Nazi Germany.
- Awards: Hans Rosenberg Book Prize (2018), Waterloo Centre Book Prize (2018 Finalist), Berkshire Conference History Article Prize (2013), and multiple fellowships including the German Chancellor Award (2003–2004).
