Van Dyke’s research focuses on the intersection of art, war, and ideology, with a long-term project on Otto Dix’s work in Weimar Germany. His current book examines Royal Dutch Shell’s corporate imagery across political systems (UK, Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Revolutionary Mexico) through social history of art and ecocriticism.
His 15 most recent publications span topics such as Kafka’s drawings, Weimar art academies, Nazi-era visual culture, and the grotesque body in Dix’s work. These contributions reflect his expertise in German modernism, political art, and critical theory.
