Moira Weigel

Moira Weigel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Harvard University and a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. She holds a Ph.D. from Yale University’s joint program in Comparative Literature and Film and Media Studies. Her research focuses on digital media in a global context, examining networked labor, identity, and persuasion. Currently, she studies transnational e-commerce entrepreneurs on Amazon’s third-party marketplace.

She earned her Ph.D. at Yale University and previously served as a Junior Fellow at Harvard and a Sociotechnical Security Fellow at Data & Society. Her work bridges academia and public discourse, with contributions to outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, and LOGIC magazine, which she co-founded.

Weigel’s first book, , recontextualized modern dating practices within consumer capitalism. Her second book, Voices from the Valley (2020) (co-edited), offers anonymous insights into Bay Area tech workers. Her writing has been featured in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Wired, among others.

Her recent work critiques tech industry dynamics, including Amazon’s monopolistic practices and Silicon Valley labor movements. She frequently engages with media and public forums to discuss technology’s societal impacts.
