Mohammad El Wali is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Helsinki. He is affiliated with the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS) and serves as a supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Interdisciplinary Environmental Sciences.
His research focuses on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of emerging food production technologies and sustainable resource management. Key areas include cellular agriculture, circular economy for phosphorus supply chains, and green energy materials analysis. His work quantifies environmental impacts of oat processing side-streams, yeast-based single-cell protein, and critical material dependencies in sustainable food systems.
Recent projects include:
- Water & Food Futures (2024–2027): Strategic Research Council funding for sustainable water-food futures.
- InterEarth RESET (2023–2028): Strengthening university research profiles via the Research Council of Finland.
- EIT Food: Nordic Cereals (2021–2022): Valorisation of cereal side streams for feed production.
Scientific collaborations span institutions like the Research Council of Finland, EIT Food, and private foundations. His research has been published in journals such as International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment, Nature Communications, and Science of the Total Environment.
