Mitesh Kataria is an Associate Professor at the University of Gothenburg's Department of Economics. He focuses on applied welfare economics, behavioral economics, and experimental economics, with an emphasis on policy analysis related to market failures. His work examines collective decision-making ethics, preference data methodologies, and hedonic welfare measures. He holds a tenured position and has contributed to numerous externally funded research projects, including studies on climate policy fairness, power outage costs, and cross-cultural climate attitudes.
His teaching includes Environmental Economics, Microeconomics, and Statistics. He has led or co-led grants such as 'Climate policy and fairness' (Formas, 2008–2011) and 'Preferences for climate policies among Swedish, Chinese, and American citizens' (Swedish Energy Agency, 2018–2022).
