Anna Bendz is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg, where she also serves as Director of Studies for the teachers' education program. She is affiliated with the Centre for Collective Action Research (CeCar) and Gothenburg Research Group on elections, public opinion and political behaviour (GEPOP).
Her research focuses on two primary areas:
- Collective action theory, particularly concerning the management of common natural resources (especially water systems) and government policies for food consumption
- Policy feedback and how knowledge of policy programs affects public attitudes, with a specific focus on the Swedish welfare state (privatization of welfare services and attitudes to social insurances)
Currently, she leads three research projects funded by the Swedish Research Council and Formas, examining: collective action problems in water management along the Göta River (2020-2023), climate policies for food consumption (2020-2023), and climate change education in social science teaching (2022-2025).
Her publication record reveals a consistent scholarly trajectory examining how citizens respond to policy changes, particularly in the Swedish context, with increasing attention to climate-related policies in recent years. Her work demonstrates methodological diversity including survey experiments, policy analysis, and public opinion research.
As Director of Studies, Bendz teaches primarily on courses within the teachers' education program, focusing on civics for students training to become upper-secondary school teachers.
Her research has been supported by major Swedish research councils including the Swedish Research Council and Formas, with ongoing projects spanning environmental governance and welfare policy domains.
She maintains active affiliations with two prominent research groups:
- Centre for Collective Action Research (CeCar)
- Gothenburg Research Group on elections, public opinion and political behaviour (GEPOP)
