Mitchell Akiyama is an Assistant Professor of Visual Studies at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, University of Toronto. His practice spans scholarship, composition, and art, addressing themes of perception, history, and sensory experience through interdisciplinary lenses. He co-founded MAYB Studio, an art/design collective exploring experimental intersections between media and environment.
Education includes a PhD in Communications from McGill University and an MFA from Concordia University. His research investigates sound studies, metaphors, and media technologies. Key projects include installations for Gendai Gallery, performances at venues like Long Winter Toronto, and collaborations with Raster-Noton Records and Sonar Music Festival.
