Dr. Mirna Mourtada is a Senior Lecturer in Bioscience at the School of Life Sciences, Keele University. She serves as Dean of Internationalisation and Partnerships in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Programme Director for Human Biology and Pre-Master's in Biomedical Science, and Admission Tutor for Human Biology. Her roles also include Year One Tutor for Human Biology.
Dr. Mourtada holds a first-class BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry (1995) and a PhD in cellular pharmacology (1998), both from Keele University. She completed a Master’s in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (MATLHE) in 2011. Her research focuses on molecular cell biology, apoptosis regulation, and the role of non-coding RNAs in cancer. Current projects include investigations into protein phosphatase 4, long non-coding RNAs, and vacuolar ATPase subunits in cancer contexts.
Her teaching spans molecular cell biology, nutrition, cell signaling, and advanced laboratory techniques across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s students, contributing to research in cancer biology and drug repurposing. Dr. Mourtada’s work integrates molecular mechanisms with educational innovation, emphasizing translational research in bioscience.
Lab members include current PhD candidates and past students who have contributed to studies on leukemia, neuroblastoma, and breast cancer. Collaborative research has been presented at conferences like NCRI and EACR, with publications in journals such as Cell Reports and International Journal of Biological Macromolecules.
