معرفی
Mirjam Thomann is a Berlin-based artist, writer, and educator with faculty experience at German art institutions. She served as Visiting Professor for Sculpture at Kunsthochschule Kassel (2018-2020) and will create a functional sculptural installation for Leuphana University Lüneburg's Kunstraum in September 2024. Her practice focuses on site-specific spatial interventions using elements like revolving doors, corner pieces, and mirrors to interrogate inclusivity in art systems and transitional space dynamics.
Thomann’s theoretical work in Texte zur Kunst explores feminist architectural approaches (2020) and gendered spatial enactments through collaborative methodologies. Her 2020 text The Feminist’s House combined quotes from artists, theorists, and horoscope writers in a performative collage. Recent projects demonstrate sustained engagement with Lina Bo Bardi's architectural legacy and radical display systems, including her 2018 Galerie Nagel Draxler exhibition featuring flesh-toned steel sculptures and collapsible furniture.
Her artistic research examines ephemeral boundaries between art and architecture, with particular attention to in-between spaces (doors, stairs, walkways). This focus aligns with her 15-year thematic trajectory of challenging spatial hierarchies and creating participatory art environments that question access and inclusion mechanisms in cultural institutions.
