Pablo Garcia Lopez is Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Sciences at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York, a cross-disciplinary artist and neuroscientist whose work fuses rigorous scientific research with baroque sculptural practice. - PhD, Neuroscience, Complutense University of Madrid (2008)
- MFA, Sculpture, Maryland Institute College of Art (2012)

Research & Creative Practice:
Lopez’s scholarly publications in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, Neural Plasticity, Progress in Neurobiology and other journals reconstruct the histological legacy of Santiago Ramón y Cajal while interrogating contemporary neuroculture. Paralleling this, his studio work uses self-developed silk-casting techniques to create large-scale baroque reliefs, tapestries and “neuro-sculptures” that merge neuronal architectures with religious ornament, military imagery and sci-fi fantasy. Major series include Reliefs (2018-ongoing), Neurowarfare (2023-ongoing), Fake Atlas of Neuroanatomy (2020) and the Guttenberg Prints from the Asylum (2020-21).
Scientific & Artistic Awards:
- Rinehart Fellowships, MICA (2010-12)
- Best Experimental & Animation Award, SCINEMA Australia (2008)
- Ramón Areces Foundation Doctoral Grant (2004-08)
- Caixa Galicia Art Foundation Fellowship (2009)
- Jerome Foundation support
- Guttenberg Arts Residency (2020/21)
- Queens Council for the Arts grant (2020)
- Air Governors Island Residency (2019)
- Sculpture Space residency (2016)
- Franconia Sculpture Park grant (2013)
Exhibitions & Public Engagement:
His installations have appeared at the German Hygiene Museum (Dresden), Moravská Galerie (Brno), CosmoCaixa (Barcelona), Wellcome Trust (London), Connersmith (Washington DC) and multiple New York venues. Lopez regularly lectures on art-science intersections and maintains an active studio practice in Brooklyn.
