Miriam Johnson is a Professor of Palliative Medicine at Hull York Medical School and Associate Director of the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre at the University of Hull. She holds an adjunct position at the University of Technology Sydney. Her work focuses on breathlessness management, health inequalities in palliative care, and innovative clinical trials across respiratory and cardiac diseases. She has led over 20 major grants (NIHR, MRC, etc.) totaling millions in funding and has published extensively in high-impact journals.
Education: MBBS from University of Manchester and MD qualification.
Research spans clinical trials, qualitative studies, and observational methods addressing advanced disease impacts. Key projects include BREATHE-INDIA (global breathlessness interventions), PrimaryBreathe (remote care), and DAMPen-D (delirium prevention in hospices). She has supervised 10+ PhD students and currently advises 2 primary and 4 co-supervised PhD candidates.
Awards: 2017 Researcher of the Year (University of Hull), Twycross Prize (1999).
