Professor Mark Pearson holds a Chair in Implementation Science at the University of Hull's Hull York Medical School within the Faculty of Health Sciences. His research focuses on translating evidence into clinical practice, particularly in palliative care and advanced illness management. He leads the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Group and has pioneered Realist research methodologies to address complex healthcare challenges. Pearson has a PhD from the University of Plymouth and previously worked as an adult nurse in oncology and rehabilitation. He has secured over £30 million in research funding for projects like the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Palliative Care and the North Yorkshire Health Determinants Collaboration. His teaching includes postgraduate modules on Implementation Science in palliative care settings.

Research interests span implementation strategies for palliative care interventions, breathlessness management, delirium prevention, and healthcare workforce well-being. Recent projects include the DAMPen-D II delirium management trial and BREATHE-INDIA breathlessness intervention in India.
Over 110 peer-reviewed outputs since 2011, with 2023-2025 works focusing on healthcare professional well-being, cross-cultural medical education, and scalable arts-based mental health initiatives. Current supervisions include PhD projects on death communication and breathlessness self-management.
