Miranda Boone is a Professor of Criminology and Comparative Penology at Leiden University's Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology. She previously held roles at the University of Groningen and Utrecht University. Her research focuses on sentencing, penal law, comparative penology, and offender supervision, with a particular emphasis on cross-jurisdictional analyses. She leads the 'Criminal Justice: Societally Effective Criminal Justice' research program and coordinates interdisciplinary projects addressing conflict resolution and prison population disparities between the Netherlands and Belgium. Boone has authored influential works, including a textbook on criminology-criminal law intersections and studies on penitentiary living conditions. She advises on judicial decision-making processes and supervisory mechanisms, including probation service effectiveness. Her recent work explores prison conditions, sentencing legitimacy, and the societal impact of penal policies. Boone supervises multiple PhD candidates and collaborates internationally on penal reform and comparative criminology.
