Prof. Minoru Shimizu serves as a Professor at Dōshisha University's Faculty of Regional and Global Studies in Kyoto, Japan. He was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Art History during fall semester 2020, affiliated with both the Chair of History of Visual Arts/Teaching and Research Center for Theory and History of Photography and the Chair for East Asian Art History.
His academic background includes a PhD from the University of Tokyo and specialized training at Phillips University Marburg as a DAAD Fellow under Prof. Dr. Gerd Mattenklott.
Research spans interdisciplinary domains with emphasis on:
- Transnational avant-garde movements (Europe, North America, Japan)
- Technical and aesthetic dimensions of color in photographic media
- Contemporary ceramic art practices
- Synergies between musical composition and visual art forms
