Kenichiro Shimizu is Professor at Waseda University’s Faculty of Education and Integrated Arts and Sciences and concurrently Professor Emeritus at Hokkaido University. Holding a University of Tokyo doctorate in Chinese literature, he has held faculty positions since 1994, spanning Chinese literature, East-Asian media history, tourism studies and language education.

Research interests encompass modern Chinese literature, socio-cultural history of Republican China, East-Asian media history, peace and non-war movements, and tourism studies. His recent work explores the birth of mass tourism in 1920s–30s China, multilingual VR campus guides, and transnational peace-education networks.
Publication trends reveal a long-term focus on Republican-era Chinese print culture, readership, and media, later expanding into tourism history and digital language education. Recent articles connect historical peace movements with contemporary educational technology.
