Dr. Minnita Daniel-Cox serves as Professor of Voice and Vocal Area Coordinator in the Department of Music, College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Dayton. She is an active performer with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and Dayton Opera, and serves as Artistic Director for the university's annual musical and opera productions.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from Bowling Green State University
- Master of Music from the University of Michigan
- Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan
Dr. Daniel-Cox's research centers on the Dunbar Music Archive, which she founded in 2014 to preserve and promote musical works associated with Paul Laurence Dunbar. Her scholarship spans African American music history, vocal performance practice, and musicology, presented at conferences including the National Association of Teachers of Singing, College Music Society, and Society for American Music.
She has secured over $350,000 in research funding through two National Endowment for the Humanities grants and a Mellon Foundation grant. Dr. Daniel-Cox coordinates the Vocal Performance Institute (a summer program for high school singers) and the Dayton Opera Apprentice Program, while maintaining an active performance schedule including roles in Menotti’s The Consul and Dead Man Walking.
Her artistic contributions are regularly featured on WDPR Discover Classical broadcasts, and she performs with the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra and Bach Society of Dayton.
