Edward Bak is a Professor and Associated Faculty member in the School of Music at The Ohio State University, serving as a Vocal Coach and Collaborative Pianist. His roles include teaching, performance, and leadership in opera productions. He holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Institute (MM, Graduate Performance Diploma), The Cleveland Institute of Music (BM, Artist Diploma, Professional Studies), and Boston University.
His expertise centers on vocal coaching and collaborative piano performance, with international acclaim for his artistry. He has collaborated with renowned artists and orchestras including The Cleveland Orchestra and The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Bak has held key roles with opera companies such as the Cleveland Lyric Opera, Dayton Opera, and Nevada Opera, and served as music director for the Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theater. He initiated innovative projects like the VIVA online opera academy and 'I, too, sing America' video series celebrating African-American composers.
Bak’s career spans prestigious institutions like the Tanglewood Music Center, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and international festivals. His teaching appointments include The Peabody Institute and Longy School, complementing his current Ohio State University position.
