Ming Zhou, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine. He holds the Ruth McLean Bowman Bowers Professorship and is a member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research focuses on membrane transport proteins and membrane-embedded enzymes, integrating structural, functional, and computational approaches to elucidate substrate recognition, transport mechanisms, and energy coupling in cellular systems. Zhou's work has significant implications for understanding genetic diseases and drug discovery.
Education: Postdoctoral Fellowship at The Rockefeller University (2004), PhD from State University of New York at Buffalo (1999). Research interests include Structural Biology, Enzymology, Neuroscience, and Chemical Biology. Notable achievements include solving the structure of mammalian stearoyl-CoA desaturase and defining mechanisms of sugar transporters and ion channels.
- Awards: Pew Scholar in Biomedical Science (2006), Alfred P. Sloan Fellow (2006), Basil O’Connor Starter Scholar Award (2006), Irma Hirschl Award (2008).
- Labs/Teams: Zhou Lab, focusing on lipid bilayer proteins, phosphotransferase systems, and TrkH ion channels.
- Publications: Over 20 peer-reviewed articles since 2008, including high-impact studies in Nature and Proc Natl Acad Sci.
