Ming-Yeh Tsai Rawnsley is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Communications Studies and White Rose East Asian Centre, University of Leeds. She holds a PhD from the UK, focusing on Taiwan's public television system. Prior roles include Head of Chinese Studies at the University of Nottingham Ningbo (UNNC) and Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham's Asia-Pacific Institute. Her career spans journalism, academic research, and cross-cultural projects.
Her research interests encompass media's role in democratization, Chinese-language cinema, and cross-cultural dialogue. Notable projects include 'Making Science TV Programs for the International Market' (funded by Taiwan's National Science Council) and 'Cross-Cultural Dialogue: Taiwan Film Festivals' (supported by Leeds and Taipei's Representative Office). She has authored/co-edited influential works like Political Communications in Greater China and Critical Security, Democratization and Television in Taiwan.
Her publications explore topics such as Taiwanese cinema's portrayal of identity, Cold War espionage in Asia, and media's role in crisis management. She has organized film screenings and academic events promoting East Asian cultural exchange, blending practice-based research with scholarly analysis.
