Dr. Jens Damm is a Lecturer at the Institute of Chinese Studies, Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. Starting February 2025, he will assume the visiting chair of Taiwan Studies at Leiden University. Previously, he held positions as Associate Professor at Chang Jung University (2009–2019) and Assistant Professor at Freie Universität Berlin. His research focuses on Taiwanese and Chinese diasporas, new media dynamics, gender studies, and LGBTQ+ rights in East Asia. He is Principal Investigator of the 'China's Cultural Diplomacy and Non-State Actors' project (2015–2017) and co-edited volumes such as Chinese Cyberspaces and Taiwanese Identity in the 21st Century.
Education: Holds a PhD (Dr. phil) in Taiwan Studies. Current research project: 'Contested Representations: Analyzing Taiwan's LGBTQI Media Landscape from AIDSphobia to Marriage Equality,' examining media's role in societal transformation through critical discourse analysis.
