Dr. Min Jiang is a Professor of Communication Studies at UNC Charlotte and CyberBRICS Visiting Professor at FGV Law School in Brazil. She holds affiliate roles in International Studies and Public Policy programs. Her research bridges digital technology, geopolitics, and policy with a focus on China and the Global South. Dr. Jiang leads the Global Media & Internet Concentration Project (GMICP), a $2.5M CAD initiative investigating media ownership globally.
Educations: B.A. and M.A. in English from Beijing Foreign Studies University (1999–2002), Ph.D. in Communication from Purdue University (2007).
Research Interests: Digital sovereignty frameworks, AI governance, BRICS digital policies, and U.S.-China tech competition. Recent work includes editing the Cambridge University Press book "Digital Sovereignty in the BRICS Countries" (2024).
Recent Articles: Focus on platform antitrust dynamics, social credit systems, and cross-border data governance. Her 2024 book synthesizes BRICS nations' digital sovereignty strategies.
Awards: Includes ICA’s Top Faculty Paper Award, CyberBRICS Fellowships, and contributions to the NETmundial+10 global digital governance framework.
Grants: Leads GMICP with $2.5M CAD funding. Previously secured grants from SSHRC, SSRC, and the FGV CyberBRICS program.
