Miklos Peterfy, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP), Western University of Health Sciences. He has held academic roles since 2016, including Visiting Scientist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Visiting/Adjunct Professor at UCLA School of Medicine. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic disorders like diabetes and dyslipidemia, with a focus on genetic determinants and therapeutic targets.
Education:
- Postdoctoral Fellow, National Institutes of Health (1990-1993)
- Ph.D., Budapest University of Technology (1990)
- B.S., Budapest University of Technology (1986)
Research Interests: Dr. Peterfy's lab investigates genetic and molecular pathways in metabolic diseases. Key areas include insulin clearance, lipase maturation, and lipid metabolism. His work combines mouse models with clinical studies to identify novel therapeutic strategies.
Grants: He leads or co-leads multiple NIH-funded projects, including studies on insulin clearance (R01-DK129877), lipase maturation (R15-HL154071), and metabolic syndrome mechanisms (P01 grants). His research has been supported by the American Diabetes Association and the Department of Defense.
Teaching: At WesternU, he teaches courses in Biochemistry/Genetics and the Endocrine System. He has chaired advanced courses in Mouse Molecular Genetics and Human Genetics at UCLA and Cedars-Sinai.
Labs/Teams: He directs the Peterfy Laboratory and collaborates with institutions like Cedars-Sinai and UCLA on metabolic disease research. His work integrates genetics, biochemistry, and clinical data to advance understanding of metabolic pathways.
