Dagmar Kratky is a Full Professor at the Medical University of Graz, affiliated with the Gottfried Schatz Research Center for Cell Signaling, Metabolism and Aging. Her research focuses on metabolic lipases in lipid and energy metabolism, using transgenic and tissue-specific knockout mouse models to study physiological functions of enzymes like lysosomal acid lipase (LAL) and monoglyceride lipase (MGL).
- Studied Chemistry (1987-1997) and completed her PhD at the University of Graz
- Academic career progression: Research Assistant → Assistant Professor → Associate Professor → Full Professor (2012)
- Current leadership roles: Vice Chair of Molecular Biology/Biochemistry (2018), Speaker of SFB 'Lipid Hydrolysis' (2019)
Research interests center around:
- Physiological roles of metabolic lipases in distinct cells/organs
- Neutral vs. acid lipolysis mechanisms
- LAL's regulation of VLDL synthesis and insulin sensitivity
- Tissue-specific Lal-deficient mouse models to isolate systemic vs. cellular effects
- MGL's role in macrophage lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis
She has supervised numerous PhD and Master's students whose projects include:
- LAL's role in bone/muscle development
- Intestinal lipid metabolism effects
- MMP12-LAL crosstalk
- CGI-58 in macrophage function
