Brigitte Pertschy is a Lecturer and Research Group Leader at the Institute of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Graz, Austria. Her work bridges molecular biology and biochemistry, focusing on ribosome biogenesis and its implications in cellular growth and disease.
- Education: Studies in Microbiology (University of Graz, 1995-2001)
- PhD in Microbiology (University of Graz, 2005)
- Habilitation in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (University of Graz, 2014)
Her research investigates the regulation of nuclear import of ribosomal proteins and ribosome assembly factors. The synthesis of ribosomes, a critical energy-intensive process in eukaryotic cells, is tightly linked to cell growth and is particularly vital for rapidly dividing cells like cancer cells. Her laboratory examines chaperones and assembly factors involved in ribosomal protein maturation and the cytoplasmic steps of 40S subunit maturation, contributing to understanding ribosome biogenesis and its role in cellular health.
Brigitte Pertschy has been associated with the University of Graz since 2011 as a research group leader and has served as a lecturer in the Molecular Microbiology curriculum since 2009. She previously held postdoctoral positions at the University of Graz (2001-2005) and Heidelberg's Biochemistry Centre (2005-2009). Her work addresses fundamental questions in RNA processing, ribosome assembly, and their connections to cellular metabolism and disease.
