Professor Mike Chick is a leading academic in the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries at the University of South Wales, specializing in language education for migrants and refugees. He serves as the University’s Refugee Champion, advocating for inclusive education policies. His research focuses on language access for forced migrants, sanctuary initiatives, and the role of education in fostering belonging in Wales.
Education: Mike holds a PhD in English language teacher education from the University of Huddersfield, an MA in Education/Applied Linguistics, and multiple teaching qualifications including a Diploma in TESOL from Trinity College London.
Research Interests: His work addresses migrant language policy, refugee integration, and ethical research practices. Notable projects include a commissioned review of Welsh Government’s migrant language education policy and studies on university scholarships for people seeking sanctuary.
