Mike Austin, Ph.D., is a Professor and Coordinator for Philosophy & Religious Studies at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), located in the College of Letters, Arts & Social Sciences. His academic roles include teaching and coordinating curricula in philosophy and religious studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, an M.A. in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics from Biola University, and a B.A. in Political Science from Kansas State University.
His research interests focus on ethics (both theoretical and applied), philosophy of religion, history of ethics, and philosophy of sport. He has published extensively on topics such as humility in moral theology, the ethics of parenthood, and the intersection of sport with philosophical and religious values.
Dr. Austin has received notable awards, including the EKU Excellence in Research and Creative Activities Award (2018) and the Character Essay and Book Prize (2013). He has also secured significant research funding, including a $50,666 grant from The Character Project and The John Templeton Foundation (2012-2013).
He is affiliated with organizations such as the American Philosophical Association and the Evangelical Philosophical Society. His work bridges philosophical theory with practical applications in ethics, religion, and sport, reflecting a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship and public engagement.
