Bogardus specializes in metaphysics and epistemology, with a focus on the mind-body problem, rationality of religious belief, and philosophical analysis of sex and gender. His work explores the relationship between biological sex and gender identity, and he has developed a gamete-based account of biological sex.
His recent publications (2020-2025) address topics in epistemology (explanationism, evolutionary debunking arguments), philosophy of religion (comparative theology), and gender theory (trans inclusion problem, sex/gender distinction). He collaborates frequently with Pepperdine students and alumni.
